Who is Steven?
Steven is a technology lawyer, an adjunct professor, and a sought-after speaker. After graduating from the Peter A. Allard School of Law (UBC), he practiced at some of the most prestigious law firms in Canada and around the world. During his time in private practice, he served on hiring committees, gaining insight into how decisions are made behind the scenes.
Through his career, Steven received some of the legal profession’s top honours. He was named one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers, recognized as Best Under 40 by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and awarded the BC Medal of Good Citizenship, one of British Columbia's highest distinctions for public service.
As the first in his family to attend law school, Steven understands what it’s like to navigate unfamiliar systems. He remembers feeling completely lost as a law student during the recruitment process and trying to piece everything together on his own.
His personal mission is to serve the person he once was and help others walking the same path.

What are your coaching services like?

We offer three tiers of support depending on your goals.
It begins with our Starter package, which is completely DIY and lets you work through digital materials at your own pace.
The next level is our most popular option, our Premium package. This includes a thorough CV assessment to identify the most likely interview questions based on your profile, 1:1 coaching sessions to help shape your story and interview responses authentically, and additional sessions you can book à la carte at a discounted rate.
The final tier is our Elite package, which is capped at a set number of clients per year for those seeking top-tier support. This package includes weekly coaching sessions, in-person interview practice, priority access to us via WhatsApp and our Beyond the A Job Guarantee.

Everything that I teach is grounded in personal experience, and it works.
In addition to serving on recruitment committees at firms and companies, I have applied the same strategies in my own career, successfully navigated four job pivots and landed my dream roles each and every time.

Do you work with non-lawyers?
Yes! Several clients have landed roles in both business and public settings. Prior to law school, I worked in human resources at one of the largest corporations in Canada and am well-versed in what those roles are looking for.
While there are some nuances within law and outside of law, the core principles remain the same and happy to help.

We can absolutely help. Many of our clients re-engage us to help polish their interview responses for a lateral move.
Having made many of my own lateral moves and worked in the most coveted roles in the legal industry, I find the strategy differs, but the fundamentals remain the same.
Do you offer workshops?
100%. I’ve spoken at major law firms, corporations, non-profits, and regulators, including the University of British Columbia, the University of California Berkeley, Osgoode Hall, the University of Victoria, the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, the Law Society of Ontario, the Law Society of Alberta, and more.

Being a first-generation lawyer myself, I know how hard it is to learn this on your own, and my personal mission is to serve the person I once was and help others walking the same path.

Interview coaching will dive deep into public speaking, communication, and storytelling strategies. During our time together, my goal is to help you communicate your story succinctly and clearly. This is much different from general mentorship.
During our time together, we’ll craft your interview response, but repeat it over and over again until you’ve nailed it. The purpose is not for you to memorize word for word but for you to communicate in a way that’s authentic to you and impactful to the listener as well.
Having studied stand-up comedy, improv theatre and public speaking, we’ll incorporate well-known principles from those fields into interview coaching.
